About Salford Quays

Salford QuaysSalford Quays, located in Greater Manchester, England, was originally developed by the Manchester Ship Canal Company. After it was opened by Queen Victoria in 1894. It soon became one of the busiest ports in England. Today the waterways still play a large part in the scenic, green landscape of Salford Quays, as does the more than 20 public parks and five nature reserves. Whatever type of entertainment you seek, from museums housing historic art, to a cruise on along the famous canals, can be found in Salford.

If the visual arts excite you, the Salford Museum & Art gallery is home to a permanent Victorian collection, as well as contemporary artwork. The frequent change of works in the temporary exhibit space ensures constant exposure to different artists. Nature lovers will find a variety of green options at Clifton County Park, such as picnics, fishing and guided walks. The Lowry provides multiple creative offerings under one roof with cafes, theaters and shops, as well as the tourist center for Salford Quays. If you are ready to leave the land and explore Salford Quays by water, Mersey Ferries provides the Manchester Ship Canal Cruise. The cruise is 35 miles long and goes from Salford Quays to Wirral's Seacombe and Woodside terminal
